UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS AT TOP UNIVERSITIES

Denys Holland Scholarship at University College London (UK)

International students who would like to pursue a degree at UCL but lack the financial sponsorship to can take advantage of the Denys Holland Scholarship provided they are able to demonstrate their intention to maximize opportunities and activities offered by the UCL and its Student Union. The scholarship provides a grant of £9,000 a year. Award recipients may decide to use all or a fraction of the grant to cover the cost of their tuition.

International Leader of Tomorrow Award at University of British Columbia (Canada)

The University of British Columbia (UBC) offers undergraduate scholarships for outstanding secondary and post-secondary international students. Students who win these awards receive financial aid that covers their tuition fees and living expenses, excluding the contributions that can be made by the student and his or her family to cover other costs.

  • Award Value: Awardees receive the equivalent of a financial aid that is sufficient enough to undertake an undergraduate programme minus the sum the awardee and his or her family are able to contribute annually. So when shortlisted, the awardee receives aid based on the financial information that he or she provides.

Awards are renewable as long as the awardee’s academic performance meets the stipulated standard at the end of each academic year. The renewal will also depend on whether he or she demonstrates the need for it and is able to maintain a student visa.

  • Eligibility: candidates must have been nominated by the school they are being transferred from the high school they have just graduated or will be graduating from. For an applicant to be considered for this award he or she must:
  1. Be applying for an undergraduate programme
  2. Must be admissible to the first choice program and meet the English Language Admission Standard of UBC
  3. Have a an excellent and proven academic record with an ‘A’ average or its equivalent
  4. Not be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada but an international student with a Canadian Study Permit
  5. Must demonstrate financial need sufficient enough to prevent them from pursuing the program at UBC
  6. Must be coming into UBC from a recognized high school or transferred from a college or university of the sort.

And all packages must be sent in by November 15. Nominees are also required to complete the online admission application by December 1 and must have met the English Language Admission Requirement by January 31 of the following year.

Reach Oxford Scholarships (UK)

Quite a number of Colleges in Oxford offer the Reach Oxford Scholarships annually to international students from developing countries who are unable to further their education in their home countries due to political or financial reasons or because there are no existing systems or facilities that encourage them to pursue a programme in their home country. The scholarships usually cover tuition fees and provide grants to cover living expenses and a return airfare ticket for every year of study.

  • Deadline: October 15/February 16 (Annual)
  • Subject area: Undergraduate programs in any subject on the University’s course listing, excluding medicine.
  • Number of Scholarships offered: 2 to 3 every year
  • Award Value: The award covers the cost of tuition and college fees and provides a grant for living expenses and a return airfare for each year of academic study. It lasts for as long as 3 to 4 years depending on the duration of the course.
  • Eligibility: This scholarship is only open to those who have received an admission offer from the Oxford University. Applicants must also demonstrate social commitment and financial need as these are requirements for eligibility. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate their intentions to return to their home country as soon as the programme has ended. Those who haven’t had an undergraduate degree before are usually given more preference in the selection process.

IMPORTANT: Candidates must be from countries that receive development assistance from the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). You can check to see if your country of origin is listed by visiting the Official scholarship website.

  • Application Instructions: For a chance at this scholarship, applicants are strongly advised to make an admission application through the UCAS before October 15 and must successfully gain a place.

Having gained admission into the university, the applicant will then be required to complete a separate application form for the scholarship program, which must be submitted before February 16.

University of Canterbury International First Year Scholarships (New Zealand)

The University of Canterbury offers these scholarships to outstanding international students who would be starting a Bachelor’s programme at the University. The scholarship is awarded as $10,000, $15,000, and $20,000 grants.

Bristol University International Office Scholarships (UK)

The University of Bristol offers scholarships to new and outstanding international students who would like to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at Bristol. The scholarship award is valued at a sum within the range of £8,000 and 12,000 and can be used to cover the cost of tuition.

Monash University International Merit Scholarships (Australia)

The International Merit Scholarships are some of the scholarships offered by Monash University to outstanding international students who would like to pursue an undergraduate or postgraduate programme at Monash University. It is valued at $10,000 paid for each year of a full-time study.

  • Participating Institutions: Monash University in Australia

  • Deadline: The deadline is based on the selection round which depends on the commencement of the programme. For instance, the deadlines for rounds 1 and 2 are 15 October and 15 November respectively for programs that starts in semester 1 or 2 of the following year, while the deadline of round 3 is 15 January for a program that begins in semester 1 or 2 of the current year. For programs that begin in semester 2 of the current year, rounds 3, 4, and 5 are the official selection rounds and the deadline for applying are 15 March, 15 April, and 15 May respectively.
  • Subject area: Any full-time undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) degree excluding Master of Business Administration and Monash Pathway Programs or Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor of Medical Science
  • Number of Scholarships offered: Four scholarships are offered.
  • Award Value: A full value of course fees are paid every year as long as the minimum number of points required for the degree have been acquired (70% or above for each semester). This excludes accommodation and living costs.
  • Eligibility: International students from all countries can apply. A full Monash course offer for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is also very important.
  • Application Instructions: A prerequisite to applying for this scholarship is an unconditional offer for a full-time Monash course. A separate application form is then obtained from the official website to apply for the scholarship.

Bologna University Study Grants for International Students (Italy)

The University of Bologna offers scholarships to outstanding international students who would like to apply for a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at the University of Bologna. Each grant amounts to a sum of €11,059 and is awarded for one academic session.

  • Participating Institutions: University of Bologna, Italy
  • Programme(s): Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
  • Deadline: March 21 (Annually)
  • Subject area: First, Single, and Second Cycle Degree Programmes offered at Bologna University
  • Number of Scholarships offered: 8 scholarships for First and Single Cycle degree programmes and 40 Scholarships for Second Cycle degree programmes. Once this criterion has been met, these must also be met. They must
  1. have qualifications necessary to meet the admission requirements for the First, Single or Second Cycle degree programmes. Qualifications from the Republic of San Marino are not eligible and the applicant’s citizenship is not a criteria.
  2. have fulfilled (or will at the time of programme registration fulfil) all the access requirements of the intended degree programme.
  3. not be current students of Bologna University
  4. not have been beneficiaries of the Unibo Action 2 study grants
  5. be younger than 30 years by the deadline of the

Applicants must also have taken one of these two tests by the application date:

SAT for First or Single Cycle Degree Programme

GRE for Second Cycle Degree Programme

  • Award Value: The scholarship is awarded as a grant of €11,059. Renewal of this scholarship is only based on a certain call for applications.
  • Eligibility: Only international students who obtained their qualifications outside the Italian system are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
  • Application Instructions: Applications must be submitted from 12am on January 24 to 12am on March 31 (CET) in the format explained through the Studenti Online in the call for applications.

Utrecht University Excellence Scholarships (Netherlands)

The Utrecht University Excellence Scholarship provides outstanding prospective international students with scholarships that encourage them to pursue a Master’s or Bachelor’s programme in some fields at the Utrecht University. The scholarship is either awarded as tuition fees or as the tuition fees and €11,000 as allowance for living expenses.

  • Participating Institutions: Utrecht University

  • Deadline: December 1/February 1
  • Subject area: Not all scholarships are supported by this scholarship. If the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship is listed as a scholarship opportunity then you are good to go.
  • Number of Scholarships offered: Approximately 20 to 25
  • Award Value: The grant offered is not a full scholarship and it may be awarded as tuition fees and a stipend of 11,000 euros for living expenses or as a cost that simply covers tuition fees. You may choose to look for additional funding options to ensure that you are financially safe during your study period.

Depending on the programme, the scholarship may be awarded for 1 or 2 years. It could also be renewed in the 2nd year if the awardee meets the academic requirement to sustain the award.

  • Eligibility: Applicants must:
  1. Be in the top 10% of their graduating class
  2. Be a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country and not eligible to be supported with study loans and grants under the Dutch system.
  3. Have completed secondary school education and/or undergraduate programme in a country other than the Netherlands.
  4. Have applied for a master’s programme that will begin by September 1
  • Application Instructions: Applications for this scholarship are only considered when the applicant has applied for a Master’s programme. International students from non-EU/EEA countries will be given the privilege to apply for the scholarship as soon as they have submitted the application for admission.

Applicants stand a better chance of having their applications considered if they submit the scholarship application before February. In some cases, however, the deadline may be as early as December 1.

MASTERS SCHOLARSHIPS AT TOP UNIVERSITIES

Clarendon Scholarships at University of Oxford (UK)

This scholarship fund is a prestigious graduate award scheme that offers about 140 new scholarships annually to eligible UK and international graduate applicants for degree-bearing subjects offered at the University of Oxford. These scholarships are awarded based on applicants’ potential and academic excellence. Each one covers the complete value of the college and tuition fees and a grant sufficient for the applicant’s living expenses.

  • Participating Institutions: University of Oxford in London
  • Programme(s): Masters or PhD Degree
  • Deadline: January 8/ January 19 (Annually)
  • Subject area: All graduate level degree-bearing courses are eligible for the scholarship program including part-time and full-time Master’s courses and DPhil courses.
  • Number of Scholarships offered: About 140 awards are given annually
  • Award Value: The Clarendon Scholarships are full scholarships and they are paid for the full length of the scholars’ study period. Scholars pursuing a full-time course are given generous annual grants as living allowance. This could be £14,553 or more while those on part-time courses get a support grant that covers their non-fee costs.
  • Eligibility: The Clarendon Scholarships are open to all students including international students. However, the potential and academic performance of an applicant is a major criterion for eligibility. This is why the focus is usually on students with outstanding academic performance.
  • Application Instructions: Applicants for full or part-time Master’s or DPhil courses at the University who apply by the deadline are usually considered for the Clarendon Scholarship immediately. This means that, although additional documents may be required for the scholarship, there is no separate application for the scholarship.

So it is important that you submit your admission application before the deadline if you wish to be considered for this scholarship.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships (UK)

These scholarships are full-cost grants for taught and research-based graduate programmes offered to international students from countries all over the world who would like to enrol at the University of Cambridge for a full-time postgraduate degree. It covers all expenses related to the student’s programme at the university. These costs include the university fees, inbound visa fees, airfare, maintenance allowance, and some of the dependent’s allowance.

  • Participating Institutions: University of Cambridge, UK
  • Programme(s): Masters or PhD Degree
  • Deadline: October 11/December 6 (Annually)
  • Subject area: PhD, MLitt or MSc in a one year postgraduate programme in any course taught at the University
  • Number of Scholarships offered: Approximately 95 awards every year
  • Award Value: An awardee of the Gates Cambridge Scholarship receives a grant that covers the cost of tuition, maintenance, and travelling among other expenses. In essence it covers all expenses related to studying at Cambridge. Other funds it may provide include discretionary funding like family allowance and academic development.
  • Eligibility: To apply for this scholarship, candidates may be citizens of any country other than the United Kingdom. They must also be applying to pursue a PhD (3-year research degree); an MSc or MLitt (2-year research degree), or a 1-year postgraduate course.
  • Application Instructions: Applicants are required to submit a graduate admission and funding application through the University’s Graduate Portal. The deadline for the Gates Cambridge application is October 11 for US citizens that are resident in the US and December 6 for other applicants that meet the eligibility requirements.

Edinburgh Global Online Distance Learning Scholarships

University of Edinburgh offers 4 scholarships every year for any of its distance learning postgraduate programmes. The scholarship covers the full cost of tuition and is valid for 3 years.

Developing Solutions Scholarships at University of Nottingham (UK)

These scholarships are primarily offered to international students from African countries, India, or any developing country that is a member of the Commonwealth. It is awarded to students who would like to pursue a Master’s programme at the University of Nottingham with the intention to return to their home country where they will contribute to its development. 30 of the 105 scholarships offered annually cover the full cost of tuition while the remaining 75 cover 50% of it.

  • Subject area: Full-time Master’s Programme in any field in one of these faculties: Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Science, and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
  • Number of Scholarships offered: Approximately 105 scholarships with 30 of them awarded as full-tuition waivers and 75 of them awarded as 50% tuition waivers.
  • Award Value: The scholarship simply offers 50% to 100% financial support towards the cost of tuition
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be a permanent resident of India or an African country. He or she could also be from any one of the following Commonwealth countries:

Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Kiribati, Malaysia, Maldives, Montserrat, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, St Helena, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.

Other eligibility criteria that must be checked. Applicants:

  1. Must be classed as a foreign student with respect to fee payment
  2. Should not have studied outside their country of residence
  3. Must not be current students or graduates of University of Nottingham
  4. Must have received an offer to commence a full-time Master’s programme (Including MRes) at the University within any one of these faculties: Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Social Science, and faculty of Science.
  • Application Instructions: You must have received an offer of admission to enrol for a full-time Master’s programme in any one of the aforementioned faculties before you are granted access to the scholarship application. Admission applications should be submitted at least 6 weeks before the scholarship deadline. This way, the admission will have enough time to process your application and also grant you access to the scholarship application if you are granted admission. The scholarship deadline is March 24 by 12 noon (UK time)

TU Delft Excellence Scholarships (Netherlands)

The Delft University of Technology offers excellence-based scholarship awards to international students every year. One of its scholarships is the Justus and Louise van Effen scholarship which aims to provide financial support to international students who wish to pursue a programme at TU Delft. This scholarship is a full one that covers tuition fees and provides the student with monthly allowance for living expenses.

  • Deadline: December 1 (Annually)
  • Subject area: Any Master’s Degree programme offered at TU Delft
  • Number of Scholarships offered: 3 Scholarships per faculty
  • Award Value: Full tuition waiver for an MSc Programme at TU Delft and living allowance for 2 years
  • Eligibility: Applicants must have an excellent academic record and must be admitted for an MSc programme at TU Delft having had a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80% or higher from a globally recognised university.
  • Application Instructions: Applicants for this scholarship should have submitted an application for a Master’s Degree programme at TU Delft by December 1. The scholarship application form which is usually available by October 1 should have been uploaded as well with clear reasons for applying for the scholarship.

University of Maastricht High Potential Scholarships (Netherlands)

These scholarships are offered by the University of Maastricht Scholarship Fund to encourage talented students from non-EEA countries to pursue a Master’s Programme at the University of Maastricht. This scholarship covers the student’s tuition fee, visa costs, living expenses, and insurance.

  • Subject area: Any of the eligible Master’s programme offered at Maastricht University
  • Number of Scholarships offered: 24
  • Award Value: The scholarship award covers the awardee’s living expenses valued at €12,350 for 13 months and €23,750 for 25 months. Other expenses it covers are health insurance valued at €710, tuition fee valued at €13,000, €15,000, or €17,500 based on the tuition fees for the programme; visa costs at €317 and pre-academic training course at €825.

This scholarship award is valid for 13 months for a 1-year master’s programme, and 25 months for 2-year master’s programme.

  • Eligibility: The following requirements must be met before an applicant is considered for the scholarship:
  • Applicants must be citizens of non-EU/EEA countries and must be eligible to obtain a residence permit and an entry visa into the Netherlands.
  • Applicants must have submitted a course application to pursue an eligible full-time Master’s degree at Maastricht University.
  • He or she must be able to meet the requirements for admission into the proposed programme.
  • Applicants must not have participated in a primary, secondary, or higher education degree programme in Netherlands except they only participated in an exchange programme.
  • Applicants must have an excellent academic record proven with the most-recent transcripts. Applicants who graduated in the top 5% of their class are usually given more preference.
  • Application Instructions: Applying for a participating Master’s programme at Maastricht University is a prerequisite to applying for this scholarship. As soon as you’ve submitted your application via Studielink, you will be given a student ID number that will be requested from you during the scholarship application. You must complete and submit the application before February 1 for it to be processed.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (Netherlands)

The Leiden University Excellence scholarship Programme aka LExS will be suitable for you if you are looking to purse an MSc, MA, or an LL.M at the Leiden University. It is awarded in one of these 3 ways: as a €10,000-grant for tuition only, as a €15,000 grant for tuition only, or as the equivalent of a total tuition in euros excluding the home fee.
